No April Fools here, just a bunch of lucky and happy anglers, especially after getting here yesterday afternoon and being told the fishing was slow, with the only boat out seeing only four fish.
Today, my team had more than 20 chances and reckoned we had released 17 sails. To be honest about it, I lost count, but remember for sure one triple release, several doubleheaders and some singles.
The skipper “Chico” of the cute little 37 Merritt we fished on reckoned we let 15 go. Anyhow, there was plenty of action for all the boats that were out there some 40 odd miles from the beach.
Ferrell’s team got into a bunch of medium-size yellowfin tuna, and we all had sashimi with our p.m. cocktails in the pool at the lodge. One guy, not in our Marlin U. group, let go a blue marlin on fly tackle, always a good feat requiring both angling skill and expert boat handling.
More news soon.
Good fishing,
Peter B
