Support Hurricane Relief Efforts
The Southeastern United States has been hit hard with Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Thankfully all of our clients survived the storms and are in the rebuilding process but will be back stronger than before! Casa Vieja Lodge donated 100% of proceeds from our online shop sales to the Greater Houston Community Foundation, and personally thanked those that shopped for this cause.
Irma had a direct impact in the South Florida community where CVL Headquarters are located. Our compadre boat Sharkey’s Revenge, who called Guatemala home this past season, organized a Hurricane Irma Relief effort for the Florida Keys in which Casa Vieja Lodge supports. If you are in South Florida, please donate anything you didn’t need for Irma and more to 395 Marquesa Drive Coral Gables, or CVL Miami Office.
The Keys need everything: Water, sports drinks, generators, bleach, flashlights, batteries, canned goods, coolers, hand sanitizers, baby supplies, gas cans, etc. Anything you can spare will be greatly received by those in need. For more information call our Miami Office 305-854-4665.

Captain’s Profile: Nestor Garcia
Many of our clients may have fished with Captain Nestor Garcia as he filled in for Capt. David aboard the Finest Kind over the past few years. Starting this fall, Capt. Nestor will be full-time at the helm of the Affinity, 39′ Billy Knowles. Capt Chico has been running the Affinity, but now his shiny, new, completely renovated 37′ Merritt Release is back in action. For those that haven’t fished with Capt. Nestor here is a glimpse into what makes him special.
“Like many of my friends, and fellow Captains, I have been on the water for much of my life. I”ve had the privilege to fish in El Salvador, Costa Rica, Cabo San Lucas, and New Jersey for blue, black, white and stripe marlin, sailfish and all pelagics. Of course, my best day was in Guatemala with 77 sailfish on bait plus 6 on fly, totaling 83! Fishing in Guatemala is perfect because it’s the best in the world and fishing is close to shore. Casa Vieja Lodge is the best because we have the best selection of people working like a big family and we love to make our fishing friends happy! I love fishing because, ‘fishing is life’.”
Fallin’ For Sailfish
Summer fishing has come to an end and Casa Vieja Lodge will be back in action mid-October to Fall in love all over again with our sailfish numbers and the start of our people season.
A skeptical summertime client turned into a believer after his visit this August to Casa Vieja Lodge and shared it on our Trip Advisor page. Here is our favorite part, “We were told that going to Casa Vieja in the summer months was not a wise choice because the fishing would not be good. Lucky for us, everyone who told us this was wrong! ” CVL Staff has been sharing this secret all along: we have a people season, not a fishing season. Spend your next summer vacation fishing and seeing the untouched beauty of Guatemala.
