It’s Drastic, Kick Plastic
If you’ve been to the Lodge this past season then you have seen and taken part in our Kick Plastic program, pioneered by Costa Sunglasses, as we eliminated single-use plastic water bottles, nevertheless, in Guatemala! We hope you are continuing to do your part and using your custom Casa Vieja YETI and helping to save our oceans one plastic bottle at a time.
When you arrive at Casa Vieja we give you the kick start to Kick Plastic in your own backyard. Every client is gifted with an 18oz YETI Rambler Bottle to take home and make help make a difference. Two Elkay water fountain and Bottle filling stations are at the Lodge, and YETI 5-Gallon Silos are available aboard the fleet of boats. New YETI Rambler colors will be featured this season to add to your collection, or you can always purchase your favorite colors through our Online Shop HERE.
In the 2018-2019 season, we saved over 65,000 single-use plastic bottles and still counting, as we are still out fishing! An impactful detail is 17,000 of those bottles were Gatorade bottles! We made an easy switch to the powder Gatorade and send them pre-mixed to the boats in either the 36oz or half-gallon YETI’s.
Please join us in our efforts, and also encourage other guides, outfitters, and lodges to do the same! For more information on our Kick Plastic program and efforts CLICK HERE.
2019 No Sancocho Sailfish Shootout
No Sancocho? Si Sancocho! Muchos Sancocho’s! The more the merrier! This is the only time you will be fishing and okay with having a Sancocho, or missed bite. That is because, for every missed bite, our anglers will donate $20. All proceeds go to a great cause. Not only are you fishing for first place, but you are fishing (or lack thereof) to better someone in need. The No Sancocho King or Queen is the angler with the most Sancocho’s, and to us, this is the most prestigious award there is!
Join us at our annual 2019 No Sancocho Sailfish Shootout November 7-9th, it’s hands down the most fun you will ever have tournament fishing. We like to focus on fun and camaraderie, and of course the fishing! We have one boat remaining and it has your name written on it!
The money raised this past tournament helped Natasha, the 10-year old daughter of Poco Loco First Mate Johnny, by avoiding amputation of her leg as that was the only option in Guatemala. Johnny refused this option for his little girl and sought advice from Capt David Salazar, who then promised to use the proceeds of the tournament towards little Miss Natasha, and all anglers were in full support!
Johnny and Natasha were able to fly to Mexico 3x since November, to work with Dr. Longoria in Mexico City, and she underwent chemotherapy to save her leg. The last trip on July 8, Dr. Longoria reported that the tumor on Natasha’s leg is relatively gone, in stable condition, and to continue with physical therapy. Her next appointment is in January 2020! A HUGE THANK YOU to all you helped make this father’s dream come true!
Is CVL On Your Calendar?
As summer is coming to a close, we need to remind our clients about the year-end holiday season and events. Casa Vieja Lodge will host the Fall Single Angler’s Edition, Thanksgiving Dinner, and a Tropical New Years Eve Celebration. Which one will you join us for?
The 2019 Fall Single Angler’s Edition is October 30- November 3, and we have 5 spots remaining. This unique opportunity only happens twice a year, and it allows a single angler to buddy-up with other single anglers and essentially split the cost of the boat. For $3,080 per angler, you will receive 3 full days of fishing, 4 nights lodging (including your own private room), and you will share a boat with up to 3 other Single Anglers. The Fall is a great time for the consistent sailfish bite and increased chances of stripe marlin.
Bring the whole family down for an American style Thanksgiving Dinner at Casa Vieja Lodge. Imagine fishing all day on Thanksgiving, and arriving home to a delicious turkey with all the spreads and sides you could ask for, of course including homemade pie. The best part is, you can fall into your food coma guilt-free because you won’t have to clean a thing! Oh, and you get to go fishing the next day too!
Many families have joined us annually to ring in the New Year at Casa Vieja Lodge. It’s an overall great time and everyone is in high spirits. Great fishing, family fun, a NYE roasted pig buffet, live band, and a spectacular fireworks show, albeit a bit earlier than midnight, is what everyone looks forward to on December 31st. Happiness is in the air this time of year and we welcome your family to join us!
Fishing Highlights
It’s been sub-tropical temperatures in July and an ocean breeze has kept it bearable. The calm seas and the variety of fish we all dream about have kept anglers busy! Although it takes a bit longer to find the fish because the entire fleet isn’t out daily, when we do find the fish, it’s on! Our anglers have had had their choice at sailfish, blue marlin, tuna, mahi-mahi, and roosterfish! If you don’t believe it, see for yourself.
Total numbers from July to date:
Blue Marlin: 17 raises, 13 bites, 6 releases
Mahi-Mahi: 72
Tuna: 31
Roosterfish: 8
