Trophy Husbands III
Our Third Annual Trophy Husbands Invitational was a smashing success! Huge thanks to all the dads who joined us from all over! You proved once again that being a dad and a top angler go hand in hand. We’re grateful for the laughs, the unforgettable memories, and most of all…the Sancochos! Here’s to the real MVPs—on and off the water!
Day 1, we saw Team Poco Loco take a nice lead with 150 points on the first day out. Coming up close behind was Team The Hooker, who saw a solid 100 points, and both team Chilero & Finest Kind rolled up on the end of the day with 90 points each. Leaving Team Rum Line to bring up the rear with 40 points.
Day 2, Team The Hooker jumped way ahead of the crop with an impressive 160 points, securing their 1st place spot. Team Finest Kind was right on their tails though, with a cool 140 points, and rolling up at the end of Day 2 with 110 points, Team Chilero! Last but not least, Team Rum Line did their best to get on the board with their total of 70 points for day 2.
Day 3, Team Poco Loco tried their best to push back ahead to that first place spot with 200 points; unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get them ahead of Team Hooker, who ended their day 3 with 110 points, securing them that first place win! Both Team Finest Kind and Chilero ended their day 3 with 110 points, and bringing up the rear, Team Rum Line came in with another total of 70 points for their final day.
Overall, we saw a total of 182 sailfish raises, 150 sailfish bites 99 sailfish releases! With 51 sailfish Sancochos, 3 zing pows, AND 1 Blue Marlin Sancocho, we were able to raise $2,130 for local schools here in Puerto San Jose!
Thank you so much again, to every Dad, supportive $ugar Mama, little rascal wreaking havoc around the lodge, and truly anyone and everyone who helped make this weekend what it was! It was our first Father’s Day without our OG Trophy Husband, Captain David, but everyone who showed up, and showed out, made the whole weekend feel so special. The laughter was constant, the smiles were unwavering, and the love was overflowing.

It’s Trophy Husbands Round IV in June 2026! Who’s joining us next year for the best weekend of your life???
Introducing: La Chingona
Anglers! If you remember, back in March & April, we held a Boat Name contest to find a different, more Casa Vieja Lodge inspired name for our newest fleet-member—the Isla Más.
Well, ladies and gentle-anglers, we at Casa Vieja Lodge are very proud to introduce the new, and aptly renamed:
LA CHINGONA !!!
Thank you so much to Leslie Kenyon for her name submission via Facebook for the 43′ Merritt; there were over 100 amazing ideas submitted, but La Chingona was the clear winner!
Straight from our Jefa herself, Kristen Salazar has this to say about choosing the name for our newest boat:
She’s 43 feet of purpose.
A new era. A new name.
La Chingona.
It’s not just a title—it’s a declaration.
La Chingona (la cheen-GO-nah):
A woman who is unapologetically bold.
Fierce. Fearless.
Gets. Shit. Done.
The kind of woman who walks through fire—and builds an empire anyway.
I bought her solo.
After losing the love of my life.
No handouts. No backup. Just me.
Still here. Still fishing. Still fighting.
This isn’t just a boat-it’s a legacy in motion.
Because I’m not here to play small.
I’m here to lead, to raise fish, to raise daughters, to raise hell if I have to.
Ya llegó La Chingona.
And buckle up-because she’s just getting started.
Already staying true to her name, La Chingona has been a fishing machine since she hit our waters in January. Whatever we called her, she’s already a force to be reckoned with, we’re just being sure to name her accordingly.
Get ready for a new chapter in the Casa Vieja Lodge legacy, we promise, it’s gonna be a good one…
This Fall 2025, get your chance to do something before ANYONE ELSE—Fish the newly improved & renovated Casa Vieja Lodge!

In November we’ll start seeing our Striped Marlin pop up, and in December, you’ll find more of a chance to see Black Marlin! And though we see Mahi Mahi all year round, you won’t believe the amount of Dorado you’ll catch in October and November.
