2016 No Sancocho Sailfish Shootout

The 2016 No Sancocho Sailfish Shootout is Guatemala’s most exciting & prestigious billfish tournament. Anglers have more reason than ever to secure their spot aboard one of the nine boats in the Casa Vieja Lodge Fleet and get the best sport fishing experience on and off the water.

At the end of the three-day tournament, the team with the most points wins. You and three teammates, choose the combination of bait and fly casting that you think will earn you the most points. But, if you can’t seal the deal, there’s more than just your pride on the line—every missed bite costs anglers $20. The money from every missed bite, or Sancocho is then donated to a local school in Puerto San Jose. Even with some of the best anglers in the world participating, the past tournament was able to donate $5,240 from 262 Sancochos.

Keeping Up with the Lodge

• We recently attended the Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic! Between the weather and the great conversations we had an amazing time. Congratulations to all of the winners and anglers!
• We will be at the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic at Sandestin from June 22-26, 2016- Make sure to come by the booth to learn some more information about the lodge and reel in a great deal!

Fishing Highlights

• From May 22^nd– June 10^th, the Rum Line (40’’ Gamefisherman) with Capt. Chris Sheeder, had 113 raises, 102 bites, and 58 sailfish releases. they also had 8 mahi-mah- and 3 tuna!
• From June 3^rd-5^th, the Spindrift (38’ Stolper) with Capt. Nicho Alvarenga, had 67 raises, 35 bites, and 16 sailfish releases ALL ON THE FLY!
