100% Vaccinated
We cannot wait to welcome everyone back to what looks like will be a promising 2021-22 season!
The Casa Vieja Lodge staff and marina employees took it amongst themselves to get vaccinated during this down time. Our fantastic lodge manager, Elsy, coordinated appointments with the Department of Health for CVL Staff, which is no easy feat! At the moment Guatemala only vaccinates for those 50+ years of age. We’re happy to announce that everyone you will be in contact with this season will be fully vaccinated, both for their safety and yours! Just another detail that keeps us at the forefront.
At the moment, for international travelers to enter Guatemala a vaccination card is required or a Negative PCR/Antigen test. To return to the USA, a Negative PCR test is required and is available at the Lodge for your convenience. Please continue to check the requirements prior to your trip.
We’ve been encouraging you to secure your dates for the 2021-22 season and thank you to those that have, it’s destined to be a fun year. Join us in Key West
For those anglers looking for a different fishery, or a domestic option, we’d like to finally offer you Key West, Florida. Located closer to Cuba than Miami, this subtropical paradise is worlds away from your everyday troubles. Currently, we are taking bookings for fishing charters aboard the 35-ST Contender, La Rubia.
Owner of Casa Vieja Lodge, Captain David Salazar, grew up fishing in the Florida Keys and has always dreamed of returning. He spent the past 30 years fishing in the Bahamas, Venezuela, and Central America. For the past 9 years he hosted Casa Vieja Lodge Guatemala, and now having four little girls under the age of 6 it was time to open up a fishing operation closer to home (Miami) and let these little ladies experience the same fishery as he did growing up. We invite you to be a part of the Casa Vieja Family in Key West.
Captain Zack, an 8th generation conch (native) of Key West, will be at the helm of La Rubia (pictured above).
“I’ve had my own boat since the age of 4, fishing and diving ever since. My first source of income on the ocean was commercial fishing. I used the commercial fishing industry to fine-tune my fishing skills to give clients a premium product when it comes to charter fishing in Key West. I specialize in reef, wreck, and offshore fishing. I can’t wait to show Casa Vieja clients this unique fishery they have in their backyard.”

Update on Natasha
Lastly, an update on Natasha, the daughter of Poco Loco mate Johnny, whom with the donations of many of our anglers, and the No Sancocho 2018 money, has been doing very well. Johnny has been doing anything and everything to better her life. The most exciting news is Natasha was accepted into the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in a clinical trial. Natasha has been receiving treatment for 5 weeks now with a medicine that has been used in adults with the same problem and had up to 80% success rate. She has had no side effects so they are hoping for the best. Their family is living stateside and Natasha and her sister began school last week!
The only downside to this is that Johnny won’t be able to fish this season, but as long as his daughter is getting the help she needs he couldn’t be happier. “I’m only doing what a father is supposed to do and I’ve been blessed to have clients and friends at Casa Vieja, and of course God, on this journey.”
Congrats Johnny on never accepting NO as an answer, you truly exemplify an outstanding father! We are all very proud of you and wish you and your family continued success on your journey!
