Your Ideal Fishing Dates
Recently we’ve been getting a lot of questions about when is “the best time” to fish with us, and the honest answer is: it all depends on what you’re looking to catch!
Just to keep you updated, so far in 2024, we’ve recorded:
9,915 Billfish raises
8,784 Billfish bites
5,836 Billfish releases (51 marlin)
69 Tuna
1,583 Mahi Mahi
And there’s still 284 days left in the year! How many billfish will YOU contribute to our 2024 total??
While we always keep an up-to-date list of Seasons and Species on our website, here’s a quick refresher for you anyway:
- Pacific Sailfish—They truly are year-round, but double and triple hookups are most common from October through August. The average Pacific Sailfish released are in the 80-120lb range.
- Blue Marlin—We see more Blue Marlin from April through August with an average Blue Marlin in the 200-400lb range.
- Black Marlin—The peak season tends to be December through March with the average Black Marlin in the 250-400lb range
- Striped Marlin—Seen more frequently November through February the average striped marlin is in the 90-150lb range.
- Yellowfin Tuna—April through August lends to bigger schools of the Yellowfin Tuna and the average is around 25-45 lbs.
- Mahi mahi—Though common all year long, we tend to see more schools of dolphins from April through November.
- Wahoo—If you’re hoping to hook one of our “lottery fish,” the best time to try your luck is sometime in October through December. We’ve oddly already caught 4 since the start of the year!
- Inshore Fishing—For inshore catches such as roosterfish, cubera snappers, skipjack tunas, bonitos, sierra mackerel, red snapper, broom tail grouper, tripletail, rainbow runners, crevalle and horse-eye jacks: peak season for these inshore species is from March through July.
- Grand Slams—While double-digit sailfish raises have been recorded by our crews every month of the year, Grand Slams are an everyday possibility from December through March and again in late May through July.
