Marlin University x TWO
Marlin University and their students took over the lodge the last two weeks in April and it was awesome! From pig roasts, to graduation, to four course meals, touring Antigua, and not to mention a total of 13 MARLIN RAISES! Marlin University, hosted by Marlin Magazine, puts together instructional fishing trips to teach their students how to fish and give them experiences that will last a lifetime. Marlin University was led by instructors Dave Ferrell, Charles Perry, Pat Dineen, and Robert “Fly” Navarro had 34 students!
During their time at Casa Vieja they had outstanding numbers averaging over 200 raises per day! The two totals of Marlin University were 882 raises, 748 bites, and 391 sailfish releases. They also had 13 Marlin raises, 10 Marlin bites, and 6 Marlin releases! For many of these anglers it was their FIRST time ever catching billfish, but it seems they may be the ones hooked now!

We are expecting to have an incredible May of Marlin! April has brought us increased numbers and sightings of Marlin and it keeps growing! We still have a few prime spots left in May that are calling your name! This month we have also averaged daily double digit sailfish and have caught hand fulls of mahi-mahi and tuna. - From April 12-14th, the Rum Line (40’ Gamefisherman) with Capt. Chris Sheeder, had 56 raises, 26 bites, 13 sailfish releases, PLUS 5 blue marlin raises, 3 blue marlin bites, and 2 mahi mahi ALL ON THE FLY!!
- From April 14-15th, the El Cadejo (35’ ST Contender) with Capt. Caluco Alvarenga, had 45 raises, 36 bites, and 22 sailfish releases. They also had 1 blue marlin raise and 1 blue marlin bite!
- From April 17-20th, the Intensity (37’ Gamefisherman) with Capt. Mike Sheeder, had 135 raises, 120 bites, and 55 sailfish releases!
- From April 17-25th, the Finest Kind (40’ Whiticar) with Capt. David Salazar, had 151 raises, 121 bites, 73 sailfish releases! Plus 3 blue marlin raises, 3 blue marlin bites and 2 blue marlin releases!
- From April 17-26th, the Makaira (37’ Rybovich) with Capt. Jason Brice, had 225 raises, 197 bites, and 120 sailfish releases! Plus 5 blue marlin raises, 4 blue marlin bites, 4 blue marlin releases, AND Mahi-mahi!
- From April 22-25th, the Spindrift (38’ Stolper) with Capt. Nicho Alvarenga, had 90 raises, 74 bites, and 34 sailfish releases! Plus 1 blue marlin raise, 1 blue marlin bite, and 1 blue marlin release!
- From April 22-25th, the Afinity (39’ Billy Knowles) with Capt. Chico Alvarenga, had 129 raises, 110 bites, and 58 sailfish releases! They also had 5 blue marlin raises, 4 blue marlin bites and 1 released!
