2022 No Sancocho Sailfish Shootout RESULTS
Three days of excellent fishing, calm seas, fabulous friends, and lots of SANCOCHOS made this year’s tournament another success!
BIG CONGRATS to the ladies aboard the Finest Kind with Capt Nicho as they took home First Place and it’s such a sweet victory as each year they have become better anglers and moved up on the scoreboard, and now it’s finally their turn to shine! Angler Jane Thomas, the wife of Trophy Husband Jimbo, hooked and wrangled in an estimated 400lb blue marlin on 30lb test line for the extra 50 points to bump and secure first place with 45mins until lines out! They also qualify for the Offshore World Championship held in Quepos April 16-21, 2023.
Second Place was awarded to the IWFA Ladies on Team Makaira with Capt. Jefry. With just a few Sancochos this team was releasing anything that came at them, except loads of mahi.
Third Place was awarded to Team Contender aboard The Hooker with Capt. David who was tied for second but received third due to the time of the last fish caught. This was a big team with lots of laughs, fish, and Sancochos!
The Sancocho King was Billy Flynn with Team Trophy Husbands with 5 SANCOCHOS, which shows just how skilled fishing was this year!
Top Lady Angler was Jen McQuilken with Teams Cummins with 12 sailfish and 1 striped marlin on 30lb.
The largest dorado was 55 3/4” slayed by Jon Cooper on Team Contender.
60 Sailfish and 5 Marlin Sancochos plus matched donations allowed us to raise $3,450 that will go to a local school to help buy student & teacher desks, chalkboards, and a few other key items. We look forward to having you back November 9-11, 2023.

Guatemala Fishing Report
The schools of mahi mahi and big tunas have been getting in the way of billfishing! The sailfish have been harder to find. It will be a good couple of high teen releases for a few days, and then the following day they scatter and we catch them in singles throughout the day, instead of triples and quads! But who’s to say when that magic day is, so we are out there daily catching them up. It’s been great to still have blue marlin in the daily reports, and and a striped marlin was recently caught so they should be moving on in shortly.
