Ladies Only Marlin Expedition
Last month, we were proud to host some of our favorite lady anglers at Casa Vieja for Marlin Expeditions Ladies-Only Expedition!
When we asked the director and lead instructor of Marlin Expeditions for her favorite thing about the trip, she told us: “the friendships made during this trip were cemented in unbelievable fishing. I’ve never seen so many smiles plastered on so many pretty faces as I did that week.”
The trip consisted of eight lovely ladies, hailing from North Carolina and Florida, and four crazy days full of fishing, aboard our beloved Makaira and Rum Line.
After three standard days of fishing, they had some fun and scrambled the teams up for a last-day mini-tournament. These lady anglers were able to raise a whopping 257 sails, 250 bites, and 167 releases!
Other unforgettable highlights from the trip include a first-ever blue marlin on the first day; both boats hitting double digits before lunchtime every day; a special birthday celebration (complete with tiara and homemade coconut cake) and tagging more than 60 sailfish for The Billfish Foundation!
We are so thankful to have been able to host such a great group of lady anglers! If you’re a female angler interested in a trip like this, be sure to sign up soon! Slots fill up fast!
CVL is for the Family
Parents, it’s the age-old question, you want to take an amazing family vacation, but you’re not sure if you should (or even can) bring the kids…
Here at Casa Vieja Lodge, we’re proud to say we’re incredibly kid-friendly. From our adaptable kitchen—your kid only wants fish fingers and french fries, we can do that!—to our pool, and even to our incredibly patient and super knowledgable captains and mates.
Especially if you’re an avid fishing parent, looking for an easy way to introduce your kids to a rod, we know exactly how to help. Plus, fishing is non-stop here so children don’t get “bored”. As with any angler, small or large, our whole crew is here to help you to your exact level of skill! If you’d like to show your little one everything yourself, be our guest, we’ll be at the dock with the rods ready to take you out. Not entirely sure where to start with showing your child about reeling in a bite? We can help there too, from getting hooked up, to helping your kid into their fighting belt or chair, all the way to posing with their first catch!
At Casa Vieja Lodge, there is nothing we love more than watching our angler’s pure joy in their perfect catch, whether it’s their very first sailfish or their hundredth dorado. Let us help you have your perfect family fishing trip!

May Fishing Report
May has been pretty steady with great numbers. On a Hot Bite Day, one boat in our fleet was able to secure 76 sailfish raises, 70 bites, and 60 releases all in a day! Congrats to our mates and anglers and on the Chilero (Islander) for their skill in racking up those numbers!
Another one of our vessels, the A-fin-ity, also blew last months Hot Bite Day numbers out of the water with an impressive 62 sailfish raises, 56 bites, and 44 sailfish releases.
Things only seem to be ramping up over here in our Guatemalan waters. Join us this Summer for a record-breaking year! June- August are great months for the always consistent sailfish PLUS blue marlin! We are on track to break the most releases in a single year and we need your help, so come on down!
