Captain Promotions
For those that have fished on the Makaira, 37’ Rybovich, then you know Jefry has been helping you release sailfish since 2001 when it was then called the Pelagian! He began working as a wash down boy and has since been wrangling sailfish, marlin, dorado, turtles, you name it and he was involved. We are excited to announce that Jefry Garcia was promoted to the Captain of the Makaira and knows both the fishing and the boat inside and out! Recently, the Makaira was refreshed with a new paint job, outriggers, Alutecnos reels, and is ready for action!
This season, at the helm of the Release, 37’ Merritt, is Captain Sammy Baires. He’s worked hand in hand with his brother Capt. Benji aboard the Pez Raton the past few years, and originally started with legendary Capt. Ron Hamlin, as his first mate! A few weeks into the season and Capt. Sammy is putting up some GREAT numbers!
We have very limited spots available now through March. Group Trips are available April- November 2022. Please secure your dates! Anglers are coming back with a vengeance, just like our sailfish!

WOW, October was a GREAT month of fishing! Sails, Sails, and more Sails. Add in blue marlin, and a TON of mahi-mahi, and that made a spectacular month. Take a look at our highlights below!

- October 2nd-27th, the Finest Kind (40′ Whiticar)with Capt. Nicho Alvarenga, had 512 raises, 493 bites, 365 sailfish releases plus 7 marlin raises, 6 marlin bites, 5 marlin releases, 21 tuna, and 31 mahi-mahi.
- October 10th-27th, the Rum Line (40′ Gamefisherman) with Capt. Terry Brennan, had 320 raises, 302 bites, 216 sailfish releases plus 3 marlin raises, 3 marlin bites, 3 marlin releases, and 31 mahi-mahi.
- October 15th-24th, the Afinity (39′ Billy Knowles)with Capt. Nico Melendrez, had 235 raises, 211 bites, 158 sailfish releases plus 4 marlin raises, 3 marlin bites, 2 marlin releases, and 23 mahi-mahi.
- October 15th-24th, The Hooker (48′ G&S) with Capt. David Salazar, fishing 4 days, had 147 raises, 136 bites, and 95 sailfish releases plus 2 marlin raises, 2 marlin bites, 2 marlin releases, 1 tuna and 8 mahi-mahi.
- October 15th-27th, the Release (37′ Merritt) with Capt. Sammy Baires, had 333 raises, 295 bites, 222 sailfish releases, plus 5 marlin raises, 2 marlin bites, 1 marlin release, and 17 mahi-mahi.
- October 18th-22nd, the Pez Raton (35′ Contender), with Capt. Benji Baires, had 53 raises, 49 bites, and 34 sailfish releases plus 1 marlin raise, 1 marlin bite, and 8 mah-mahi.
- October 22nd-24th, the Spindrift (38′ Stolper) with Capt. Franz Hoffman, had 106 raises, 88 bites, and 38 sailfish releases plus 2 marlin raises, 1 marlin bite, 1 marlin release, and 6 mahi-mahi.
